| Aquaproof has rescued my backyard from a progressive drainage disaster. Portions of my backyard would turn into a swamp from November through most of May. I don't know why but each year it seemed to get worse. The spring of 2009 it looked like I had a 10'X15' pond; ducks would literally swim in my back yard. We used to joke that I could probably receive funding for turning it into a wetlands. I researched yard drainage and happened upon the idea of a rain garden. It seemed like an ecologically sound idea and I hired a company to install one. I still have hopes that the raingarden will do some good but the resulting drainline from the garden was a horrible mistake. Water was being drained from my yard but it was being dumped into clay-based ground that could not absorb it. During heavy rain and as the winter snow began to melt a stream formed at my back door and the groundwater came up into a window well and steadily streamed into my basement. Aquaproof consulted with me and at first encouraged me to have the original company return to fix their mistakes. That company ignored my pleas. Gil Brummet returned and worked out solutions with me. He trenched and laid perforated pipe, tied it into the drain line from the rain garden and the downspouts and repaired the damage done to the window well drain. It was a massive wet mess that took two days to complete. I'll admit, the first day had me worried. The trenches were so deep and muddy, such a large amount of water was flowing it was hard to imagine it working out. But the next day when I got home from work, everything was cleaned up, the solid pipe laid and everything was seeded and strawed. I was very pleased with the work that was done. I wish I had called Aquaproof first. I did become concerned about the amount of water that was being drained across the public sidewalk in front of my house. I called Gil and he said he would come by and talk to me about it later that week. However, he sent guys over the same day I called, I told them my concern and they immediately trenched and laid some more pipe to go under the sidewalk straight into the storm sewer. They were very professional and insisted that I call them back when we have dryer weather so that they can check if any of the seeded areas needed more dressing. They sounded very proud of their work and wanted to make sure it looked pleasing and well-finished |
